Interview 031: Cam Damage

In this work I focused on inner emotional world as kind of reflection of real life with highlighted significant experiences, which brings new period into life. I am also interested in kind of „memory sediment“- nothing can be forgotten, or declined, every experience has been frozen in memory and forms or deforms human mind.
In metaphorical expression shown in installation, I show time passing and life periods changing as the bathroom chain, where separate elements follow each other and create a continuous line. Sound record of water flowing through shower also symbolizes time passing and makes scene more powerful.
The vertical position of the chain symbolizes flow which involves the tear-like shaped elements, which indicates the presence of negative emotions but also the flow direction and ultimateness of life experiences, their indelibility from memory. Visual aspect of the work is supplemented by record of water flowing in shower, which refers to the intimacy of the mind and the integrity of the inner world and uncompromisingly running time as well.
I didn’t feel very grounded as a kid.
After moving a lot, dropping out of high school and moving out of the house at 16, I turned to photography as a place of refuge. There was a lot of stuff in the world I wanted to take control of. I wanted create a world that’s a little bit magical, that people can kind of get lost in. Photography became my safe haven. I felt lost, and taking pictures gave me a purpose. It felt like the most natural way to express myself. I always want to create a peaceful space.

A really lovely interview, pinpointing just those issues and attitudes I’m experiecing with portrait or street photography. The feminine point of view(inder) is definitely clear. And it’s awesome to follow someone’s progress, even from the other part of globe.
Some time ago I got permission to see the interior of abandoned synagogue in Levice- small town in south of Slovakia, which was under reconstruction right then and before modification to completely different kind of building, I mean buildingof different functionality, not sacred at all.This experience inspired me to work with fragments of the real plaster used for walls of the building which I collected and I was working with them as they were the most precious stones.I perceive this authentic material as some kind of witness of dramatic storiesin history, including the situation when victims of fascism in Levice were roundedup and locked inside of this synagogue the night before deportation.
